Netflix CLEOPATRA docu-series causes fury

The new Netflix docu-series on Cleopatra has caused fury all over the world. Produced by Jada Pinkett Smith, the documentary cast a black actress, Adele James (above), as the legendary Queen of Egypt. The lineage of Cleopatra is well known. She was from a Macedonian - Greek background so the casting of a black actress has been categorically refused by many, including historians/archeologists in Egypt.

I haven't seen the pseudo documentary and I have no interest of seeing it. What kind of 'documentary' purposely disregards her actual background to placate the current 'woke' folks and the mania they are creating around the world at the moment.

This interpretation is sorta funny in that Julius Caesar had a son with Cleopatra and one can only imagine how Rome would have approved of having a future ruler of the Roman Empire ruled by a half black emperor. It would make an interesting speculative fiction story.

This is not the first time Hollywood portrayed famous historical figures as a different race than they were originally, including Samson being black.

  2. I thought there was at least one later Emperor of African origins.

  3. Give me a break. Nothing is more woke than bitching about how an actress is not a racially accurate representation of a historical figure which has never been portrayed accurately anyways. If they refused someone because they were of mixed race in favor of an ethnically accurrate actor, people would also scream wokness. This woke talk is pointless and annoying. I guess I have to look elsewhere for peplum news which does so in a more professional manner.

  4. Clearly some people don't know what 'woke' means.

I just reported on the backlash, I didn't create it. The backlash is so bad Netflix had to turn off comments of the docu-series trailer!

Also, I don't have Netflix so I can't watch it! lol!

If you write nasty comments they won't be published here. It's not complicated. And if you're so pressed why do you come here? Clearly you don't like the blog because one little post reporting on a backlash made you so upset. So why come here? It doesn't take much for you to go from 'hey I follow the blog to go to hell'

13 years of creating a blog. Over 6800 posts and then one simple post and 'Oh I have to go elsewhere!'

Some of the reactions are so funny.

  5. I am on your side. Peplum is a great way to learn all about the fun Italian Epics. You are very informative in everything that you post. That other guy must be from Mar Largo.

  6. So now we have to defend Rome. What's the problem with Cleopatra being white? The fact is that she was of greek background like Achilles or Alexander. The other fact is that this blog is the most accurate about the information it provides that I've found.

  7. Glad I unsubscribe from Netflix since this year, they were turning shit anyway. To the idiot from 25 April: we shouldn't have to put up with this sort of nonsense, if shaka Zulu was played by a white actor how would your reaction be ? You shouldn't watch historical movies if you're that thick.
