Searching far and wide for all things PEPLUM! Luciano Marin and Steve Reeves in GOLIATH AND THE BARBARIANS (1959)
Commenting on comments
Quick notes on comments here at the blog. I've noticed that at Facebook or Twitter, the comments there for my accounts are pretty good and positive (I know, Twitter is usually very toxic). Most comments here at the blog are courteous and interesting. Commenting here has always been moderated since the blog gets a ton of spam. I rarely deleted non-spam comments, whether they're positive or negative. But for a while now the blog has received an increasing amount of comments made in 'bad faith'. Starting in 2021, I decided not to publish everything.
- Repetitive comments
- Overtly sexualized comments.
- Comments that completely contradict what I wrote, which tells me they didn't read what I wrote
- 'Drive-by' commenting: comments with the purpose of not being engaging to the topic or anything.
The blog has for many years been the target of an insane number of other blogs which are X-rated or 'adult' in nature. I don't mind that but it in turn attracts unsavoury comments. I don't mind if someone says that an actress is sexy or an actor is handsome. The entire PEPLUM genre is built on beefcake and cheesecake. I get that but sometimes comments go too far. In other words, I don't care about your handmaiden fetish.
Well, that's it!

Cinematic Confusion
VHS cover of THE GIANTS OF THESSALY (1960) with art from THE TROJAN HORSE (1961). Why?
Identify the movie
Can you identify the movie from this screengrab? Extra points if you name the actor or actors starring in it.
ANSWER: Orsh549 got it. It's from GOLIATH AND THE SINS OF BABYLON (1963). Here's another screen grab of the movie with Mimmo, Mark Forest and Livio Lorenzon. Good job, Orsh!
Twitter accounts
The new MACISTE Twitter account is going great. The stats are already amazing. Make sure to follow it.
I highly recommend these twitter accounts:
One of the most interesting Twitter accounts. By Carole Raddato.
This Twitter account is simply amazing. History comes to life. I can't recommend this Twitter account enough.
Here's Queen Zenobia.
Here's Queen Zenobia played by Anita Ekberg in SING OF THE GLADIATOR (1959)

The fun thing about the new batch of PEPLUM movies available in HD is those wardrobe malfunctions are pretty obvious now.

I'll have new merchandise next week. Too late to publish today.

As you can see I set the fonts to 'default' and the size at medium. Larger than medium makes the formatting of the blog almost unusable.
It is your blog and I suppose you can impose any rules you like about posting but this one really defeats interaction between you and your followers.
ReplyDelete"Comments that completely contradict what I wrote, which tells me they didn't read what I wrote"
If somebody disagrees with you the assumption is that they didn't what you wrote? Really? Nobody can have an opinion unless it agrees with yours? A while ago you negatively discussed a movie that I really like. I commented that I thought it was a fine film. My comment was never posted. I guess now I know why.
The tone is the point. I don't care if someone likes a movie that I'm critical of. But the idea that I can't critique a movie because you like it is the same issue. That's how many of these comments come across. I'll critique the movies as I see them. You can point out why you like it. Fine. But to say 'come on' or something to that effect is not worth dealing with.
ReplyDeleteAlso, and this is the point, if I'm critical of certain aspects of a movie it doesn't mean I'm critical of all of it. My review of WONDER OF ALADDIN was positive even if I had certain reservations with it. But saying in the comment that my review was entirely negative is not commenting in good faith. I don't need to reply back to a comment and repeat what I just wrote extensively in the review. It's redundant.
I have never commented on one of your reviews in an adversarial way. With the movie in question, which I can't recall now, I merely said "Personally I think this is a fine film." I totally agreed with your assessment of Wonders of Aladdin. Anyway, it would do good to keep an open mind about this sort of criticism. It isn't
ReplyDeletea personal attack on you.
The screen grab I think is from GLADIATORS OF ROME starring Gordon Scot. I hope that I got part of it right??
ReplyDeleteOrsh...good try but it's not GLADIATOR OF ROME.
ReplyDeleteThe screen grab I think is from " Goliath and the Rebel Slave"
ReplyDeleteLooks lika Gordon Scott( red) Mimmo Palmara and Serge Nubert almost hidden in the back ground.
Not GOLIATH AND THE REBEL SLAVE but Mimmo Palmara is in this movie
ReplyDeleteAnother wild guess, how about GOLIATH AND THE SINS OF BABYLON? Mimmo never made a movie with G. Scott. This is very tantalizing and I was thinking about COLOSSUS OF RHODES. Mimmo played a good guy in these 2 movies.
ReplyDeleteOrsh, you got it!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's GOLIATH AND THE SINS OF BABYLON.
Mimmo mae GOLIATH AND THE REBEL SLAVE with G. Scott.
Gordon Mitchell never made a PEPLUM movie with Mimmo.
