Two beautiful matte paintings from THE GOLDEN BLADE (1953). The bottom one precedes the top one in the movie. The bottom one is a beautiful vista of a walled city while the top one is how the city/market looks like inside. The cool thing about the top matte painting is the clouds move. I don't think they're real clouds but the effects is excellent. THE GOLDEN BLADE is now available on Blu-ray.

Universal-International movies always benefited from great matt paintings. I watched The World in His Arms and they were great in that as well.
I think this scene was also used in THE DESERT HAWK and possibly other Arabian Nights type films.
