At the movies...

Premiere of THE SILVER CHALICE at the Pontiac theatre in Saranac Lake, December 1954. Why Saranac Lake?

Addendum: I got the answer for having the premiere in Saranac Lake (thanks to 'anonymous'):

The world premiere showing of the 1954 film, The Silver Chalice was held at the theatre; the premier was hosted by television personality Art Linkletter. Saranac Lake won the movie premiere for having sold the most Christmas seals that year.

You can view footage of the premiere here.

Saranac Lake won a Warner Bros. contest for the town which sold the most Christmas Seals.

Thanks for this information. On one hand, it makes sense and yet on the other hand it's still bizarre. Did Warner have so little fate in it? LOL!

I don't think Warner had little faith in The Silver Chalice, I think they wanted to promote selling Christmas Seals. It was a major charity in the 1950s for polio. It was a nice gesture on the part of the studio.
