Jeffrey Hunter in GOLD FOR THE CAESARS (1963)
This is one of the few PEPLUM films which tells me that it was a difficult shoot. The location scenes are excellent but the setting up of everything (crew and actors) must have been arduous. The actors look exhausted. It's one of the few genre films in which the location scenes don't look fake. There's an unusually realistic aspect to the scenes. But the film has many studio-bound scenes which look like...studio-bound sets. Jeffrey was 37 years old when he made this. 5 years later he would be dead at the age of 42. Pretty sad.
