Atlas (Gordon Mitchell) shows his strength to soldiers in ATLAS IN THE LAND OF THE CYCLOPS (1961; Maciste nella terra dei ciclopi)
I love 'Feats of strength' scenes in PEPLUM movies but somehow these scenes don't evoke the same 'sense of wonder' today than when these movies were released. People are too cynical these days and would laugh or dismiss these scenes, saying stuff like the prop is made out of cardboard or styrofoam. But somehow many would take it more seriously if the effects were CGI. Isn't there something wrong with this? CGI is even more fake than some actual practical effect. I will always love these scenes. They're unique to the genre.
In the original version, Mitchell was named Maciiste but they changed the name to Atlas for the US market.
This was one of the first peplum movies I saw and was in 1961. And still one of the best.
