PEPLUM Pop Stars

There's a surprising number of PEPLUM stars who were also singers or at least released some records. Some succeeded while the singing careers of others went nowhere. Here are some examples.

Serge Gainsbourg

Serge Gainsbourg began his career in PEPLUM movies, including in SAMSON (1961) with Brad Harris. He later became more famous as a singer / songwriter. He was often paired with his wife Jane Birkin.

Cristina Gaioni

Last week, I made a profile on Cristina Gaioni. Cristina starred in THE MIGHTY URSUS (1961; above). She also recorded some songs including this one which I like.

Raffaella Carrá

The Italian actress began her career as a PEPLUM beauty but she became a famous singer with an endless number of songs. Raffaella in ULYSSES AGAINST HERCULES (1962).

Alberto Lupo

PEPLUM star Alberto Lupo wasn't a singer but was part of the classic song 'Parole, parole' sung by Mina. The song became a massive hit. The song would be redone in French with Dalida and Alain Delon, who also starred in PEPLUM movies. Above: Alberto with Rosanna Schiaffino in THE MINOTAUR (1960).

Francisco Rabal

Spanish actor who starred in the classic THE MIGHTY CRUSADERS (1958). He later released songs and records. His song 'I Love You, You Love Me' is not available on Youtube but here's the single's cover.

You neglected to mention Lou Degni (Mark Forest) who taught opera singing after he retired from the movies. I had the opportunity to talk to him over ten years ago and he was a complete gentleman.

Nice that you've met him. Mark, or Lou, is an opera singer and the article was about POP stars or popular singers.

Raffaella Carra was indeed beautiful in a tastefully understated manner. Excessive makeup is vulgar in my view, as are very large breasts and dyed hair.

Off the shoulder dresses are always a good idea. Raffaella had nice wide strong shoulders.
