Sleeping Leonora

It seems that every time Leonora Ruffo is in a PEPLUM film we always find her sprawled from head to toe because of exhaustion, a spell, she fainted or is crying over a loved one. Here's a brief overview:

From THE QUEEN OF SHEBA (1952)

GOLIATH & THE DRAGON (1960)

SWORDS WITHOUT A COUNTRY (1961)

GOLIATH AND THE VAMPIRES (1961)

And the next are all from HERCULES IN THE HAUNTED WORLD (1961):

Leonora is seemingly brought back to life at the start of the film.

Reg Park, as Hercules, tries to revive Leonora

During the film's climax, Leonora is to be sacrificed by Christopher Lee.

  1. I have both the English and Italian versions of Hercules in the Haunted World, and it seems that Chris Lee was dubbed by another actor in both. Which is a pity because of his own commanding voice; it would've fitted the villainous Lico perfectly. The movie is beautifully shot and very atmospheric. However, the underworld of the title is surprisingly sparsely populated, compared to the monster-infested hell of Goliath and the Dragon. I suppose it was very audacious of Bava to attack such a subject with a minuscule budget. The resulting film is still a real testament to his skill as a cinematographer and storyteller.
