The great flood in NOAH'S ARK (1928)
This spectacular scene, which lasts well over 10 minutes, was a combination of big massive sets and detailed model work. Remarkably enough, many extras were killed when filming the extensive flood scenes. A gruesome reminder on how realistic the working conditions were for those scenes.

Thanks - absolutely fascinating.
Accidentally killing extras has occurred n other films. At least six extras (German soldiers) were killed in making the Nazi color propaganda extravaganza KOLBERG in 1945.
Somewhere I read that John Wayne was an extra in this movie.
