French poster of NERO'S BIG WEEKEND (1956)
Imagine a Nero film and Brigitte Bardot is only featured in the poster art. There are different versions of posters but the emphasis was on Bardot. This film has a couple of different English titles, including NERO'S WEEKEND and NERO'S MISTRESS.

This is one of the few Peplum films that works reasonably well as a comedy in my view.
And why wouldn't Bardot be the only image on the poster? She was by far the film's biggest selling point.
When Helen of Troy was reissued in 1959 the new ad campaign featured Bardot "as an exotic slave girl."
Nothing against it but imagine being Gloria Swanson, Hollywood legend straight from SUNSET BLVD, and not appearing on the poster.
I'm sure appearing in Nero's Big Weekend was not Gloria Swanson's finest moment. You must admit that it is quite a comedown. But her post Sunset Boulevard career never really did take off.
Yes, it was a comedown for Gloria but since she only made another film before this Italian one, and then did nothing until that AIRPORT film, I think she wasn't looking for that many roles. She was all but retired. Or maybe everyone was terrified of hiring her after her brilliant role in SUNSET BLVD. She wasn't the only old actress who had difficulty finding juicy roles after a major one.
