The Kraken going after Andromeda in CLASH OF THE TITANS (1981)
Who knew back in 1981 that "Release the Kraken!" would become such a popular saying/meme today. In fact, a politician in the US used the fight between Perseus and the Kraken as an analogy for the heated political situation involved with the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh. Surreal!
(A side note: another politician also used the "I Am Spartacus!" saying to prove a point!)

I heard a local radio quiz program a few months ago where a caller asked who rode Pegasus and the panelist was upset to be told it wasn't Perseus. I said, "Heh, someone's seen Clash of the Titans too many times."
A few years back they had a Swedish TV show, where various directors visited Ingmar Bergman's home on Fårö island off the east coast of Sweden and ruminated on their connection with Bergman. When John Landis came to Fårö, he climbed up a craggy rock and shouted to the sea: "Release the Kraken!!"
Clash of the Titans was my first Harryhausen movie, and it's still one of my fave movies of all time. As for the disrespectful remake, I wipe my ass with it.
