By the Gods!

The main set from THE OLD TESTAMENT (1962)

This is the main set for this film. Many people dismiss PEPLUM films as low budget. Low budget films don't have sets like this. They weren't big budgeted. They were mostly medium budget productions. The PEPLUM movies of the 1980s, made in Italy (GUNAN...) or the US (DEATHSTALKER...) were low budget and didn't have sets like this.

  1. I was reading a review of the new Colossus of Rhodes Blu-ray on Amazon and the writer dismissed the movie as a cheap low budget film. WHAT?????

  2. Wow! That's says it all. They automatically think anything made outside of Hollywood is low budget and cheap.

  3. The sets in COLOSSUS OF RHODES were definitely among the best. The movie had a very nice budget and Leone showed it off a lot. I remember seeing it on the big screen when it was released and I was in awe. This one of my favorite PEPLUMS.

  4. I'm fascinated by the craftsmanship of the set builders of older movies. I agree that the low-budget efforts in the 1980's (and 1990's) were poor to say the least. I guess you got a bigger bang for your buck in earlier decades, but I'm also sure that the talent involved was better too.
