Hercules (Alan Steel) is cornered by Moon Men in HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN (1964)
There aren't that many spooky or scary PEPLUM films. There's ROME AGAINST ROME and HERCULES IN THE HAUNTED WORLD, the MUMMY films and such. There are plenty of monsters and strange places in movie of the PEPLUM genre, which may evoke fear or creepiness but all out horror films set in Antiquity are pretty few, which is unfortunate because it seems perfectly suited for it. One of the scariest scenes in any film is in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956), with that green mist coming down from the sky and killing off all first born babies. This scene in HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN is actually very cool, thanks mainly to the green tint. Have a safe and fun Halloween.

One of the great hidden treasures of fantasy cinema, due to its totally unwarranted bad reputation.
