King Herod (Edmund Purdom) and Queen Miriam (Sylvia Lopez) are a 'tumultuous' couple in HEROD THE GREAT (1959)
I'm compiling a list of 'serious' PEPLUM films. This one is serious but I believe some would dismiss it as being a melodrama. Can a Melodrama be considered a 'serious' film? Aside from this issue, this Viktor Tourjansky directed film is a good example of of a serious PEPLUM film from the Golden Era. It has absolutely no humour in it. Tourjansky specialized in these dramas set in the past. He also directed GODDESS OF LOVE (1957) and THE PHARAOHS' WOMAN (1960). I like him a lot and, imo, I consider him totally overlooked.

I never seen THE PHARAOHS' WOMAN
Last night I watched King David with Richard Gere and Tourjansky was listed as an Assistant Director.
I saw KING DAVID back in da day and I didn't like it and never watched it again. Now that Viktor was involved with it, I need to rewatch again with his films in mind. Thanks for the heads up.
Lina, THE PHARAOHS' WOMAN is an entertaining film. I might upload it on PEPLUM TV. :-)
I've never seen a decent print of The Pharaohs' Woman. It used to run on TV a lot when I was a teenager.
