Rosanna Schiaffino and Sidney Poitier in THE LONG SHIPS
A Hollywood take on the PEPLUM genre : very boisterous and over-the-top. I find it a difficult film to get into because it's so turned-up and campy but PEPLUM regular Rosanna Sciaffino makes things more fun to watch for fans of Italian productions. This Columbia pictures was shot in Yugoslavia. One of the few genre films Sidney made during that period.

1Rosanna was always first class eye candy!
This film is based on the beloved Swedish novel "Rode Orm" ("Red Serpent" -the name of the main character), but it has almost nothing to do with its source material. Russ Tamblyn plays a version of that main character from the book, Orm.
I think the novel "Röde Orm" has been translated as both "The Longships" and "Red Orm."
