Vladimir Sokoloff, Sabu and Daria Massey in SABU & THE MAGIC RING (1957)
Long considered a 'lost' film, this seldom seen 1 hour long feature resurfaced on Youtube last year, in black & white. The short film was originally filmed in color. Sabu was a big star with the 1940s 'Arabian' adventures. He still looked youngish in this even though he was 33 years old. He died just a couple of years later, in 1963, at the age of 39.
ReplyDeleteNormally I enjoy "Arabian" fantasy films, but some are just downright bad, such as this one.
Another disappointing one is ALADDIN AND HIS LAMP with Patricia Medina (whom I really like).
In my view the best "Arabian" flicks (in chronological order) are: (1) the silent THIEF OF BAGDAD, (2) the 1940 THIEF OF BAGDAD, (3) THE DESERT HAWK, and (4) THE ADVENTURES OF HAJJI BABA.
SIREN OF BAGDAD, also with Patricia Medina, is enjoyable, but not as good as the four mentioned above.
