Pietro Torrisi and Sabrina Siani are meant to be with each other in THRONE OF FIRE
The formula of the 1980s Sword & Sorcery films : have a He-Man and a She-Woman. This film, along with others of the same period, follow the exact same formula of Italian films made during the Golden Era of the PEPLUM genre, with additional violence and nudity (or less clothes). Though Sabrina was new to these kind of films, Pietro was a veteran. He was an impressive supporting actor of many classic films made 20 years prior to this one, including the Ten Gladiators series. He's one of the few who achieved success during the two eras.
Such a shame that Pietro stayed "supporting" throughout the peplum area. He's devilishly handsome with a beefy body to boot! He should have been the main attraction but wondered why he stayed in the background. His wrestling scene in Goliath at the conquest of Damascus is quite epic!
ReplyDeleteI remember this film from the golden age of undiscriminating video rentals. Though it probably comes in the backwater of the Conan films, it is really closer to the standard 1960's Peplum. Though Torrisi's character is named Siegfried, he might just as well have been called Maciste, since his modus operandi is pretty much the same; the mysterious strongman who shows up and saves the kingdom. There isn't really anything unique about "The Throne of Fire", but it has loads of action, and Torrisi's enthusiasm as a charismatic lead keeps the whole thing afloat.
