Holophernes (Massimo Girotti) falls for Judith (Isabelle Corey) in HEAD OF A TYRANT
In other countries, the title was JUDITH & HOLOPHERNES. I like this film. It's basically a morbid love story. You can't go wrong with Massimo who was a veteran of the PEPLUM genre and could act out anyone around him. Isabelle also appeared in a couple of big PEPLUM titles and then disappeared from the face of the earth. She stood her ground against Massimo and the two are credible in their difficult roles. A Fan Dub of this is in order.
A really first class peplum.
ReplyDeleteJudith's beheading (with the assistance of her slave woman) of the invading Assyrian general Holofernes is a significant theme in western art.
The most famous depiction is by Artemisia Gentileschi, the Italian early Baroque artist. She is generally regarded as one of the best female painters ever.
Caravaggio also treated this subject.
