One thing that attracts me to the original 60's run of European Peplums is their grittiness. It seems to me that everyone involved, including the actors, went all in regarding action scenes with battles, storms at sea, monsters etc. There's very little of the kind of cutting away in scenes, which seems to be there to mask the inability to perform certain actions by some actors. I think this photo of Reeves sums all of that up very well. And, of course, all that robustness is always matched by the effortless sensuality of the actresses.
