Cinematic confusion

Belgian poster for L'ULTIMO GLADIATORE the literal English translation being THE LAST GLADIATOR. It's mostly known under the boneheaded title MESSALINA VS THE SON OF HERCULES for its US TV release. In the film Richard Harrison plays Glaucus, not the Son of Hercules by any means. I thought the English TV title was bad here comes the French one with HERCULE CONTRE LES MERCENAIRES translation: HERCULES AGAINST THE MERCENARIES. Huh?!? It doesn't make a lick of sense. Glaucus, Hercule in the title, is the mercenary. Confusion.
