Angélique (Michèle Mercier) is prepared by the staff for a bath in ANGELIQUE
This film spawned a series of sequels and the series has become a cult to many. I'm not too familiar with the series even though I've seen most of the films. The series is still very popular in Russia. In fact, I have one copy of this in Russian. The odd thing about the series is that the author of the popular novels, Anne Golon, wasn't too happy with it, up to this day. Golon claims the series was re-written with Mercier in mind and bares little resemblance to the actual heroine found in the novels. Also, Michèle Mercier is also not too happy with the series because even though she worked with many big directors, like Francois Truffaut, most fans or cinephiles remember her only for her Angélique films.
Mike Todd, one of Elizabeth Taylor's husbands and creator of Todd-AO aspect ratio, was interested in bringing the series to the big screen but he died in a plane crash before greenlighting the project.
