This scene is beautiful. Henry Vidal (not shown) is walking about at night in a garden and sees these statues illuminated in the moonlight and Michèle pretends she's a statue. A brief magical moment achieved with black and white photography.

I ask you this question. Why did the US Film Industry take a fantastic movie like this and edit the hell out of it forcing us to watch a 90 min. version?
Because they have no respect for the product. It's as simple as that.
