Photo of the Day

Scene from HELEN OF TROY (1956), taken from a European lobby card

In the movie, this scene looks slightly different: the camera is straight in the middle and at a much lower level, which robs this crucial sequence of all of its spectacle. With the lower camera angle you just don't see the stuff as clearly as you see in this photo.

  1. I wonder how many angle shots were taken of this scene? I never really took notice to this you have a very keen eye. My guess as to why they used the lower camera angle is that Robert Wise liked it a lot better and used it for the final cut. Do you think he had a good reason for using that angle?

  2. Well I think Robert Wise use that scene because the horse looks more menacing from that angle seen in the film but by doing this we miss all the spectacle. IMO, this is one of the greatest epic scenes in any PEP film and I believe it would have been better with the shot from the lobby card.
