Love this movie and the sword fight is GREAT!! I'm still in search for this on DVD. I think this is one of Steve's best movies, and can't figure out why it hasn't been put out on DVD. I hope that maybe you can help me out if you know where I can locate it.
As far as I know MORGAN THE PIRATE is not in the public domain. TCM (or MGM via Warner) owns the rights to it. TCM have tons of films in their roster that they don't want to release for the home market because the only way to see these films is on TCM. Other films like HERCULES, SAMSON & ULYSSES and THIEF OF BAGHDAD are also caught in this limbo. TCM keeps these titles for their channel only. They don't consider the demand to be great enough for any dvd release.
I was fortunate to have THIEF OF BAGDAD on VHS and transferred it onto DVD, and the quality is still pretty good. I also had a VHS of WONDERS OF ALADDIN which I transferred to DVD and this came out great. One problem with WOA is that beginning credits are in wide screen format, but when movie actually gets going it becomes full screen pan & scan. The color & sound stand out on both of these transfers.

ReplyDeleteI think this fight shows more than anything what a very capable action hero Reeves was!

ReplyDeleteRichard, I agree and welcome to the blog
ReplyDeleteSR, I believe WONDERS OF ALADDIN is available on DVD through purchased of video on demand. Keep that THIEF OF BAGHDAD as I doubt TCM will release it.
