Spectacular poster for THE LAST DAYS OF POMPEII (1935)
A PEPLUM oddity of sorts as it was released in the 1930s when few genre films were made. It was basically a showcase for the special effects team behind KING KONG to show their talent. It's spectacular but the story plays like a Depression-era film with a widowed father who has to become a gladiator and helps/adopts the son from a dead adversary and makes sure the son doesn't grow up in poverty.

Not a bad movie, but it has a big Historical Flaw and that is Pompeii was destroyed in 79AD while the movie seems to cover the time of Christ. This means that Preston Foster should be a much older man at the time of the destruction and his adopted son should be near 50yrs. old. Foster does portray an older person, but not one who is probably nearing Eighty. Do you think that the main purpose of the movie was strictly for the Special Effects which were good for a movie of the early 30's?
