James Mason and Ava Gardner (in her first film in color) in PANDORA AND THE FLYING DUTCHMAN
Not a PEPLUM in the traditional sense but the crazy love story transcends time, genres and reason, including quasi-flashback moments that are straight out of traditional fantasy found in many PEP films. The cinematography by Jack Cardiff is simply astounding.
Watched this movie the other night on TCM. They did a really good job at restoring this movie, and it was an attention holder with some really good scenes and Mason and Gardner were quite convincing in their portrayals. This was different, and I agree that it had a little bit of everything in it.
ReplyDeleteI also saw it on TCM. A real overlooked gem.
