John Derek is in a tight situation in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

Who knew back then that the matinee idol would turn into a recluse with a fetish for blondes with surgically enhanced looks.

  1. He could of been a great actor.

  2. But he was too short. You could see the height difference between Huston and this fellow when he was so exhausted from traveling in the desert looking for Moses the shepherd. He was like a child in weight as Heston supported him and the like. He had a nice body but he could never pull off the hero act.

  3. He could have been a very good actor; don't know about great. He certainly had the looks, but he had a reputation for being tempermental, even early on, and became more so as he got older. Nobody really missed him when his acting career wound down, and he turned to directing his blonde wives in bad movies. And, yes, he was short-ish: 5'8" or so.

  4. BTW, I recently read that JD recreated the Montgomery Clift role in a 1954 TV version of "A Place in the Sun" opposite Ann Blyth. Wonder how that turned out... You certainly got to give him credit for trying to stretch as an actor; it's probably the most dramatic role he ever played, when you think about it.

Oh, and someone on IMDB.com claims he was actually 6'1" tall. Yeah, right! Talk about stretching it...
