Is the current state of Romance Novels influenced by PEPLUM poster art?
Romance art goes all the way back to Gone with the Winds and the films of Valentino but the actual cover art showing a shirtless muscular man in a sexually suggestive way on books sold specifically toward women pretty much started in the 1970s when they became overtly sexual, inside and out, a decade or two after PEPLUM films poster art always showed beefy heroes with beautiful damsels in distress on them.
