PEPLUM recycling: Statue from THE PRODIGAL

The gaudy statue from THE PRODIGAL was reused in ATLANTIS THE LOST CONTINENT(below). The statue still exists today and resides in someone's backyard in New Jersey. I kid you not.

  1. Hello

"statue still exists today and resides in someone's backyard in New Jersey"

Unfortunately it seems to have vanished. A comprehensive history of the "Babylonian Snake God" and the 11 foot "The Prodigal" movie statue can be found at:

There was a half height version seen in "The Prodigal" which later appeared in an episode of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." tv series (as mentioned in the comments in the above article) which has also vanished...

  2. Hello

With reference to the second photo from the top (two humans looking at a large idol):

"gaudy statue from THE PRODIGAL was reused in ATLANTIS THE LOST CONTINENT"

That wasn't the only item reused in an effort to save money.

    1) The tall double doors with the 'moon' faces on them behind the humans were the temple doors in "The Prodigal" with a partial repaint. As an aside (for example at the 00:34:39 mark) in that film when somebody requested admittance the keeper could open a peep hole to see who it was - which matched an eye on the corresponding exterior moon face!

    2) The repeating stepped decoration with the rectangular insert along the top of the wall just above the idol's left shoulder - for example - at the 00:34:26 mark appears often.

    3) I suspect that the numerous 'inverted flower pot' hats that the Atlanteans wear (ie. like the one of the head of the left figure - the High Priest) were also left over from 'The Prodigal'.
