Ruins in PEPLUM flicks are fine if they are historically accurate but whenever a film made in the 1950s or 1960s went on location, they always filmed ruins that in actual ancient time would have looked new or at least relatively new, not 2000 years older than the ancient setting.
Steve Reeves in THE SLAVE (Son of Spartacus). Filming on location is always cool but ancient Egypt should have been then relatively new looking, not "2000 years in the future" looking ruins.
Dan Vadis and the 10 gladiators in some ruins.
